The co-director of the PROMOBIENESTAR Chair, Lourdes Espinosa Fernández, together with collaborators Mireia Servían López and Nuria Fernández Diaz, visited the José Nogué School (Jaén) on 20 November to discuss mental health as part of the training activities.
They were accompanied by Octavio Álvarez Béjar, Master of Plastic Arts and Design Workshop and Coordinator of Coexistence, Well-being and Protection at the School.
Emotional problems, such as depression and anxiety, are the most common mental health disorders among young people and are a concern and challenge for families, end users, educators, health professionals and young people themselves. In this context and in light of this reality, the PROMOBIENESTAR University Chair for the Promotion of Health and Emotional Well-being in Adolescents and Young People was created thanks to the collaboration between the University of Jaén and the Provincial Council of Jaén. The PROMOBIENESTAR Chair includes training for these professionals and interest groups. To this end, the following training workshops have been held to enable youth, education, health and social services personnel and end users to acquire or improve their skills in the health and emotional well-being of young people in their respective fields of action, as well as to carry out training activities to reduce the stigma of emotional difficulties and suicide.
The workshops addressed topics such as suicidal behaviour and self-harm in adolescents and young people, taught by Dr Victoria Soto (UMH), emotional regulation techniques for young people and adolescents and tools for working on psychological flexibility and emotional skills in parenting by Dr. Inmaculada Gómez (UAL), and triage tools, manuals and practical PROADEMO resources for addressing the emotional difficulties of young people and adolescents by Dr. Luis Joaquín García (UJA).
These workshops have received an excellent response, with more than 90 people registered, with an interdisciplinary profile covering more than 6 degrees and an international profile, as it has foreign and cross-sector participants, with profiles such as work in Youth and Education Councils, Referent Nursing in Educational Centres, Secondary and Higher Education Teachers, Youth Technicians and Students, and with geographical representation from Almería, Jaén, Córdoba, Seville, Granada, Málaga, Alicante, Badajoz, Barcelona and Madrid.
In the Salón de Grados of the A3 building in Campus Las Lagunillas, University of Jaén, from 10:00 to 13:30, the training and transfer day was held for professionals of the PIF, ETG and ERACIS programme teams. The event was chaired by the first vice-president of the Diputación de Jaén, Francisca Medina, the director of the PROMOBIENESTAR Chair and head of the PROEMO network, Luis Joaquín García, the co-director of the Chair, Lourdes Espinosa, the deputy for Equality and Youth, María Dolores Ruiz (Diputación Provincial de Jaén) and the deputy director for Equality and Social Welfare in Diputación de Jaén, Celestina Martínez.
The objectives of this conference were to transfer knowledge about the report and roadmap 2025 and the resources of the PROEMO Network based on research and scientific evidence as well as to offer training in evidence-based practical strategies for social services professionals in emotional literacy and in their care for adolescents and young people with (or at risk of) emotional problems. Likewise, the objective was to establish synergies between the Chair and the network of professionals ETF; PIF and ERACIS, and in particular to listen to their training demands on aspects of their interest for the delivery of workshops after the summer.
In the framework of the PROEMO network, the PROMOBIENESTAR Chair and PROCARE Diputación Jaén, the webinar ‘Warning signs to detect emotional wellbeing problems’ was held on Thursday 24th April, a session that brought together a large group of families committed to the emotional wellbeing of their children and once again demonstrates the importance of creating spaces for training and dialogue for families. With the help of researchers Laura Zafra and David Jiménez, participants learned to identify early signs of emotional distress and to act through prevention and conscious accompaniment.
During the session, valuable tools were shared to confront situations that affect the emotional balance of children and adolescents at home.
Last Tuesday 25th March at 10:35 am, the meeting of the Monitoring Committee of the PROMOBIENESTAR University Chair took place in the Laboratory 1-5 of the D4 Building of the University of Jaén, located in front of the C6 building. This session is part of the joint commitment to continue developing innovative strategies in the field of mental health and youth welfare.
The Chair, which was born from the collaboration between the University of Jaén and the Provincial Council of Jaén, aims to promote actions of analysis, training and awareness related to emotional well-being, especially among the young population, generating synergies between the academic, institutional and professional spheres.
Some of the topics discussed included the presentation of the committee’s report, a debate and approval of the visual identifier of the Chair, the proposal for the creation of its own website to centralise content, resources and activities. The involvement of the Chair in the State Meeting of Youth Professionals, scheduled for 2025, was also assessed, and the lines of action of the Chair for the year 2025 were defined and approved, according to the interests and proposals of the parties involved.
This meeting sought to reinforce the structure of the PROMOBIENESTAR Chair as a benchmark in the promotion of mental health and youth well-being, in a context in which it is more necessary than ever to commit to spaces for dialogue, training and action in the face of the emotional challenges faced by today’s youth.
The Provincial Council of Jaén and the UJA invite you to continue consolidating this initiative as a key tool for positive intervention in the field of mental health, with a comprehensive and collaborative perspective.
